Abuse, suicide, addiction and heartbreak — just a few of the stops along Janiva Magness's road to redemption. In Original, audiences meet present day Magness via a pre-recorded video taped interview conducted by a student for a class on Contemporary Blues Artists.
The set consists of large video screens where the interview and archival home video of her midwestern childhood is displayed. Following each video clip, focus moves to the stage where her life and music unfold with the aid of brilliant actors, singers and dancers.
With every question, the audience is brought back in time to witness a remarkable journey through the eyes of a woman who is truly original.
